Bosses at Disney World Orlando have chosen Swindon to be twinned with the Magic Kingdom in a bizarre competition.
Swindon, a town mostly known for it’s obsession with roundabouts and it’s history of manufacturing cars and trains, was chosen out of 24 other towns including Brighton, Blackpool, Cambridge and Aberdeen.
The town which is the home town of TV presenter Melinda Messenger, singer Billie Piper and former Never Mind the Buzzcocks star Mark Lamarr was chosen thanks to a video slideshow created by local resident Rebecca Warren.
This winning video compared the town with Disney World using local places of interest set against an amusing rhyme which playfully extolled the benefits of Swindon.
Warren will travel to Florida with her nephew and niece to unveil a “Walt Disney World Twinned with Swindon” plaque.
“I still cannot believe that my entry has been selected. It’s fantastic. What a great opportunity for Swindon.” exclaimed Warren.
